To some it may come as a shock of what we’re about to announce. I think we’re still in shock this is actually happening! Yep, we’re moving. Not across town, not across the county or even to a neighboring county... But across the state. About 10 hours North West to a little town in the farthest point of Michigan called Ironwood. We are being blessed with a dream, but not only this, a dream we can chase... and boy we’re going to chase it!
As of July 1, we will be the proud new owners of a great little place called Black River Lodge. This is probably where the shock comes in for many of you. A lodge?! Yep, a lodge. About three years ago we came up with the “crazy” idea that we someday wanted to own and run some kind of lodge or resort, specifically in the Upper Peninsula. We started doing our research and actually contacted a couple of places, however, none of them ever worked out. Until about 6 weeks ago. After a couple of visits and one heck of a roller coaster ride of finances, business plans, and legalities, we will be starting the process of turning over ownership next week. What a whirlwind!
At this point, I’m sure you’re wondering what the heck this place is. Black River Lodge is a little resort built along the Black River in the Porcupine Mountains. First off, the surrounding area is BEAUTIFUL! There’s a handful of waterfalls just up the road… Three major ski resorts about 10 minutes away… Oh and the big lake (Superior of course!) is just 9 miles from the lodge just outside of a little park that is a photographer’s dream. Seriously, we fell in love the first time we went up there!
Then there’s the lodge. If you haven’t already, check out the website sometime (www.blackriverlodge.net) …which by the way will be fixed up very soon! Not going to lie, the place needs a little work and updating. This is part of the reason why we liked it though (It will keep us busy!). It definitely has that “U.P.” charm and more potential then we know what to do with!
We are definitely feeling every emotion at this point. The boys are so young, and we know it’s going to be hard to raise a family and a business all at the same time. Everything is coming together very quickly and the idea of moving several hours away from all of our friends, family and support system is difficult for sure… and is the biggest reason against this decision. We are going to miss everybody SO much! With that, we are still super excited about this new adventure for our little family! We think the boys are going to love growing up there!
So there it is. We’re moving. Our new adventure starts this weekend! If anybody is in need of a vacation, we would hope you would come see us sometime! Our plan is to be in touch through this blog and our facebook page if you want to keep up with us!
