OUR STORY

Hi! We're Justin & Brittany. We are your hosts. Welcome to the Lodge!

In 2014, a couple of 20-something's decided they wanted to try something different from the everyday 9-to-5 grind. We found the lodge for sale online, made the drive all the way from lower Western Michigan to look at it and decided... why not?! The lodge definitely needed work, but we decided it would be a great project and stepping stone into the world of hospitality. We quit our jobs 2 weeks later and were off on a U.P. adventure. Fast forward 6+ years later... We are still hard at work, and have accomplished many things thanks to the support of not only our family and friends, but our awesome guests!

One thing that makes staying at our Lodge different from other places is our experience and recommendations of unique, hidden gems that most wouldn't find on their own. We are lovers of the outdoors who thoroughly enjoy traveling and making memories with our kids in fun, unique places. Our favorite ways to explore the area are by ATV/UTV, mountain bike, or foot. Before purchasing the lodge, our travels were mostly confined to the Eastern UP and Northern Lower Michigan. Now, as residents of the Western UP, we've made it our mission to essentially live like tourists (when we can between hosting & housekeeping) so that we can pass along our experiences to our guests.  Guests contribute to our knowledge base as well. We enjoy getting to know you and hearing about your daily adventures. Whether your traveling alone or with a takeover group/wedding, we encourage you to #FindYourNorth here at Ironwood's only and most unique destination lodge.

THE LODGE

Built in the 70's, the lodge has been a staple family destination for traveler's looking to explore the beauty of Ironwood and the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan for decades. Season-after-season, we host individuals and families from all over the Midwest, United States, and even a few internationally. Several bring stories of times they spent here as a kid or for weddings/family events. Most come to enjoy recreation as there is something for everyone in every season. Its not uncommon for the lodge to be quiet during the day and bustling at night simply because people are out-n-about getting the full experience of the area.

We believe in value and want you to be comfortable. We will try to find the best possible option for your group size and needs. The lodge has 13 private rooms that sleep 2-10 people (depending on room) and one hostel townhouse accepting reservations by the bed. Private rooms have at least one or two private bathrooms. Some have kitchens and/or 3 or more beds to maximize savings for your group.  Speaking of groups, we can sleep up to 76 total in the lodge so your large family, wedding, club, or school team (etc.) does not scare us! Ask us about our whole house rate and wedding packages.

Great accomodations. Owners were super helpful and knowledgeable about suggestions for activities and restaurants. Lovely atmosphere and overall wonderful experience. Thanks for welcoming us and our pup to your lodge!

We were very impressed and happy with our stay at the Black River Lodge! On our trip home we were already talking about when we could book another weekend at the lodge! When visiting the Ironwood area we will choose to stay here over taking our chances with any of the local vacation rentals. At Black River Lodge you can expect clean rooms, great service, and safe accommodations! You can reach all of the highlights of Northern Wisconsin, the Upper Peninsula, and Lake Superior from here! We highly recommend staying at the Black River Lodge!

Was probably the best place we stayed at during our trip through the UP, rooms were really spacious. The lodge felt very homey and has alot to offer. They as have the sweetest horse sized dog ever that you could love on for hours. Loved this place sad we only got to stay one night.
